Workday Employee FAQ

A public portfolio sample demonstrating how I would structure employee- and manager-facing People Systems enablement.

Portfolio sample—not tenant-ready instructions. This artifact uses fictitious scenarios and placeholders. Workday navigation, labels, security, policy, eligibility, dates and support routes must be verified in the client’s actual tenant before operational use.

These are the most common questions employees ask about Workday. If your question is not answered here, contact People Systems support at [support contact — confirm before publication].

Logging In & Access

Q1: I forgot my Workday password. How do I reset it?

Visit the Workday login page and click Forgot Password (or Reset Password).
[Confirm the exact link and reset process for your organization — some organizations use SSO/single sign-on, which routes password resets through IT, not Workday directly]

If your organization uses single sign-on (SSO), your Workday login is linked to your company network credentials. Contact IT to reset your network password.

Q2: I got an error when trying to log in. What should I do?

First, confirm you are using the correct Workday URL for your organization. Then try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. If the problem continues, contact IT at [IT helpdesk contact].

Q3: Why can't I see a task or section that a colleague mentioned?

Workday shows you only the tasks and information your security role allows. Different roles (employee, manager, HR staff) see different sections. If you believe you are missing access you should have, contact People Systems at [support contact].

Personal Information

Q4: How do I update my home address?

Log in to Workday, go to your profile, select Personal (or Personal Information), and navigate to Contact Information > Home Address > Edit. See the Employee Quick Reference Guide for step-by-step instructions.
[Confirm navigation path before publication]

Important: If you move to a different state, contact Payroll separately — your state tax withholding (W-4) may also need to be updated.

Q5: How do I change my legal name?

Legal name changes require supporting documentation (such as a Social Security card or court order). This is not a self-service action in Workday. Contact HR at [HR contact] to begin the name change process.
[Confirm your organization's name change process]

Q6: How do I add or update an emergency contact?

Log in to Workday, go to your profile, select Personal (or Personal Information), and navigate to the Emergency Contacts section. Click Add or Edit, enter the contact details, and save.
[Confirm navigation path]

Pay & Compensation

Q7: Where can I find my pay stub in Workday?

From the Workday home screen, find the Pay worklet (icon or section).
[Confirm worklet name in your organization's configuration]
Select Payslips (or Pay Statements — label may vary) to view and download your current and prior pay stubs.

Q8: My pay doesn't look right. What should I do?

Do not contact People Systems first for pay discrepancies — Payroll is the right team to investigate pay accuracy. Contact Payroll at [Payroll contact] with your pay date and a description of the discrepancy. They may ask you to share your Workday pay statement.

Q9: Can I see my total compensation or bonus information in Workday?

Total compensation and bonus visibility depend on your organization's Workday configuration. If you do not see a section for this, contact your manager or HR for compensation information.
[Do not state this is or is not available — it is tenant-configured]

Benefits

Q10: When and how do I enroll in benefits?

Benefits enrollment takes place during your new hire window (typically within 30 days of your start date) and during the annual open enrollment period. When enrollment is open, you will find an Open Enrollment task in your Workday inbox.
[Confirm enrollment timing and process with Benefits team before publication]

If you do not see an enrollment task when you expect to, contact Benefits at [Benefits contact].

Q11: I had a qualifying life event (marriage, new baby, etc.). Can I change my benefits outside of open enrollment?

Yes — qualifying life events allow you to update your benefits within a defined window (typically 30 days of the event). Contact Benefits at [Benefits contact] to initiate a qualifying event enrollment. They will open the enrollment window in Workday.

Time Off

Q12: How do I request time off in Workday?

From the Workday home screen, navigate to the Time Off worklet (or section).
[Confirm worklet name]
Select Request (or Time Off Request), choose the dates and time-off type, add a note if desired, and submit. Your manager will receive a notification to approve or deny.

Q13: My time-off balance doesn't look right. Who do I contact?

Contact Payroll or HR at [contact — confirm ownership for your organization]. Time-off balances are calculated based on your accrual plan and may take one payroll cycle to update after certain events.

Performance & Goals

Q14: I cannot find my performance review form. What should I do?

Performance review tasks are delivered to your Workday inbox when the review cycle opens. If you believe the cycle is open but do not see a task, contact People Systems at [support contact] — there may be a routing or eligibility issue.

Q15: I accidentally submitted a form I didn't finish. Can I get it back?

Depending on the business process, it may be possible to retract a submitted form. Contact People Systems right away at [support contact] with your name and the name of the task, and the team will advise.
